Dr Peter Hunt : Biography

Dr Peter Hunt was born in Torquay, a seaside resort in Devon in Great Britain. He is a fourth generation dentist trained at Guy’s Hospital Dental School in the University of London.

After graduating, he was appointed Resident House Surgeon in Oral and Maxillo-Facial Surgery at Guys Hospital and he then served in the same position at Queen Victoria Hospital, East Grinstead.

He then switched disciplines and received an MSc in Advanced Restorative Dentistry from the Eastman Dental Hospital in London. He then won the first Annenberg Fellowship to study for three years at the University of Pennsylvania where he received Specialty Certificates in Periodontics and Periodontal Prosthesis.

After graduating from Penn he was recruited to join the faculty of two dental schools in Cape Town, South Africa. One was the start-up University of the Western Cape as Senior Lecturer in Restorative Dentistry, the other, Stellenbosch University where he was Senior Lecturer in Periodontics. At this time the two schools were segregated, but now they are combined and form the largest dental school in Africa.

The next year Dr Hunt was recruited back to the University of Pennsylvania, where he became Director of the Foreign Dental Training Program, then Director of Continuing Education and later, Clinical Professor of Periodontics for which he received the Coslet Graduate Teaching Award.

Later still, he was recruited to help with another start-up dental school, this time in Fort Lauderdale at Nova SouthEastern University. He was Professor of Restorative Dentistry, Post-Graduate Director and Director of Periodontal Prosthesis and Implant Dentistry. He also directed the doctoral programs in Dental Materials, Implantology and Occlusion.

Peter has long had a practice in Philadelphia of Implantology and Rehabilitation Dentistry. He was one of the first dentists in the United States to use Camlog Implant technology and has used this exclusively in his practice since 1999. He has lectured widely at implant meetings in the United States and in Germany, Greece, Holland, Hungary, Italy, Japan, Korea, Poland, Portugal, India, Sweden, Denmark, Spain and Switzerland.

He currently lectures about bone and soft tissue regeneration prior to and around dental implants. Many of these lectures are to dental schools. Peter is the Publisher and Editor of an international website on Implantology with sections on Implantology, Regeneration, Technology and Rehabilitation. He has provided hands-on training in implantology to many dentists in the Philadelphia region.
